Obama’s Faith Based Presidency

7 02 2011

Isn’t it disgusting to see this type of thing in the country that basically invented the separation of church and state?

The really annoying thing is that unlike George Bush who was ridiculed for his primitive and malevolent Christian world view, Obama probably won’t be.

“President Obama delivered an intense reflection on his Christian faith Thursday, telling hundreds gathered at the annual National Prayer Breakfast in Washington how religion sustains him amid the trials of the office — and against attacks on his faith — and providing both an explanation and a defense of how Christianity informs his view of the bitterly contested role of government in society.”

See: Obama’s faith-based presidency from Politics Daily.

Note how easily Obama’s egalitarian, socialist policies meld with his Christian ideology.

And just to be even-handed, I’m sure many people remember the type of religious crap George Bush used to spout.  Here’s an example taken from this Guardian article:

“One of the delegates, Nabil Shaath, who was Palestinian foreign minister at the time, said: “President Bush said to all of us: ‘I am driven with a mission from God’. God would tell me, ‘George go and fight these terrorists in Afghanistan’. And I did. And then God would tell me ‘George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq’. And I did.”

Mr Bush went on: “And now, again, I feel God’s words coming to me, ‘Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East’. And, by God, I’m gonna do it.”

Mr Bush, who became a born-again Christian at 40, is one of the most overtly religious leaders to occupy the White House, a fact which brings him much support in middle America.”

The Stroboconn (1936)

1 02 2011

Cool name.

These days almost all musicians especially guitarists carry an electronic tuner. They are quite cheap and often come with built in metronomes which are also very handy.

So this brief post is a quick paying of respect to the Stroboconn. The first stroboscope tuner was released in 1936 by the Conn Company.
See, A brief history of the Conn Company.

Stroboscope tuners are the most accurate with some manufacturer’s claiming accuracy up to 1/6 of a cent. (A semitone interval spans 100 cents). For more information go to the Electronic Tuner entry at the website for the all seeing oracle, (aka Wikipedia).
